Wandering in the woods at The Brickfields, Lower Halstow

The Brickfields

Commonly known by locals as 'The Brickfields' or 'The Brickies', The Old Brickworks is owned by the Parish Council as an amenity area for villagers and visitors to enjoy.

Originally owned by Eastwood & Co Ltd, bricks were made here before being shipped up to London on barges via the River Medway and River Thames. In the 1960s, the site was closed, with part of it being built on, and the rest being taken over by nature. It is now a haven for a wide variety of wildlife and the Sea Wall forms part of The Saxon Shore Way. It is a popular area for dog walkers and nature photographers.

A local group of volunteers called The Friends of the Brickfields maintain the pathways and encourage the wildlife to flourish. Please email them or call Judy on 07486 530068 if you would like to volunteer.

There are official long-term plans in place to protect this area and maintain the Sea Wall.

The Brickfields is also home to the Wharf.
